It’s
a funny thing, late August. Even with September
right around the corner, the reality is slow to sink
in.
That means September 15th
is a lot closer than you think. Maybe you’ve been
telling yourself, there’s plenty of time to sign up
for the
I&M Canal Walk or Ride.
Well, there is. But don’t be fooled by the dog days
of summer..
Sign
up
today. Tell your friends. Form your team. Get geared
up.
The big event is in a mere 19 days.
See you there.

Waterway
Logistics of the Corridor
The
economy today is truly a global economy. Goods,
information, and services cross oceans and
borders with relative ease and speed unbeknownst
in the past. Even more interesting is the role
northern Illinois plays in that global economy.
In fact, the Port of Chicago is the third
largest container port in the world! But how did
we get there? What has made this region
standout in that economic landscape?
Join
Dr. Donald
Maier, Assistant Professor of Business at
University of St. Francis, as he presents
Waterway
Logistics of the Corridor on
Thursday, September 6, 2007, at the Gaylord
Building Historic Site. Prof. Maier will
examine the commercial transportation system of
the waterways in the I & M Canal National
Heritage Corridor. The program will include the
economic impact of the I & M Canal and the role
it played in this growing global economy.
Waterway Logistics of the Corridor is
part of the Dinner & A Lecture education series,
which is held monthly at the Gaylord Building,
200 W. 8th Street, Lockport,
Illinois. The event is catered by the Public
Landing Restaurant. Festivities begin at 6:00
pm with a cash-bar reception followed by dinner
at 6:45 pm, and the lecture at 7:45 pm.
September guests choose from a menu of Chicken
Parmigiana (lightly breaded, free range,
boneless, skinless breast of chicken covered in
parmesan cheese) served over ziti pasta with
marinara sauce; or Pot Roast of Beef with mashed
potatoes, gravy, and jardiniere of root
vegetables. Bread Pudding will be served for
dessert.
The program fee, which includes
dinner, is $27 for members of the Canal Corridor
Association and National Trust for Historic
Preservation (NTHP), and $33 for non-members.
Reservations are required. Please call
815.588.1100 for additional information. The
Gaylord Building Historic Site is managed by the
Canal Corridor Association and owned by the
National Trust for Historic Preservation.
