A downtown trail

In the 1960s, the Illinois Department of Transportation began to dispose
of portions of the I&M Canal, and the Village of Lemont acquired a
segment. They recently established a 5-mile canal trail, featuring views
of the canal and Des Plaines River Valley. General Frys landing
in downtown Lemont is the trail access point and was named to commemorate
the first boat that traveled on the I&M Canal when it opened in 1848.
