Gaylord Building

The Gaylord Building is located approximately 30 miles southwest of Chicago in historic Lockport, Illinois. The Gaylord Building and Lockport are part of the Illinois & Michigan Canal National Heritage Corridor. Combined with other sites along the canal, it makes an excellent day trip from any of the following places. Click for specific directions:

Chicago’s Loop and Southwest Suburbs
• Travel south on I-55 (Stevenson Expressway) to Lemont Road South (exit 271A)
• Continue south on Lemont Road to the intersection of Lemont Road and Route 171 (Archer Avenue)
• Turn right on Route 171 and go to 8th Street in Lockport
• Turn right on 8th and immediately right into the parking lot

Southeastern Wisconsin and Northeastern Illinois
• Take I-94 east/I-294 south (Tri-state Tollway) and exit to I-55 south
• Exit I-55 at Lemont Road South (exit 271A) and continue to the intersection of Lemont Road and Route 171 (Archer Avenue)
• Turn right on Route 171 and go to 8th Street in Lockport
• Turn right on 8th and immediately right into the parking lot

Rockford, Illinois and Southern Wisconsin
• Travel east on I-90 (Northwest Tollway) and exit to I-290 east (Eisenhower Expressway)
• From I-290 exit to I-355 south toward Joliet (exit 7)
• From I-355 exit to I-55 north
• Exit I-55 at Lemont Road South (exit 271A) and continue to the intersection of Lemont Road and Route 171 (Archer Avenue)
• Turn right on Route 171 and go to 8th Street in Lockport
• Turn right on 8th and immediately right into the parking lot

St. Louis, Missouri and Springfield, Illinois
• Travel north on 1-55 and exit to I-80 east (exit 250A)
• Exit I-80 at Briggs Street (exit 134), turn left and travel north on Briggs until it ends at Division Street (approximately 5 miles)
• Turn left on Division and go to State Street (Route 171)
• Turn right on State and go 8 blocks to 8th Street (one block past the busy intersection of 9th and State)
• Turn left on 8th and immediately right into the parking lot

Des Moines, Iowa and Western Illinois
• Travel east on I-80 through Joliet
• Exit I-80 at Briggs Street (exit 134), turn left and travel north on Briggs until it ends at Division Street (approximately 5 miles)
• Turn left on Division and go to State Street (Route 171)
• Turn right on State and go approximately 8 blocks to 8th Street (one block past the busy intersection of 9th and State)
• Turn left on 8th and immediately right into the parking lot

Northern Indiana and Chicago’s South Suburbs
• Travel west on I-80 and exit at Briggs Street (exit 134)
• Turn right and travel north on Briggs until it ends at Division Street (approximately 5 miles)
• Turn left on Division and go to State Street (Route 171)
• Turn right on State and go approximately 8 blocks to 8th Street (one block past the busy intersection of 9th and State)
