Base Ball, Coward play in Lockport

Well, the Lockport Sleepers have completed their first full Vintage Base Ball season, but the postseason is still ahead.  And so is the Joliet Drama Guild’s 75th anniversary season of community theater service to the greater Joliet area.

This summer, the guild joined the Canal Corridor Association and the Lockport Township Park District in supporting the Sleepers as a way to dramatize and celebrate our big anniversary sneaking up.  Here’s what is coming:

-On Saturday, the Sleepers will play an exhibition game with the Union Army as part of the Lockport Civil War Days in Dellwood Park.

-The Joliet Drama Guild starts its 75th season Oct. 12 with Noel Coward’s “Blithe Spirit” at the Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park Theater in Joliet.

-Oct. 20, the Lockport Sleepers and five other vintage Base Ball clubs will take part in a tournament at the Dollinger Family Farm in Channahon.  It will be old-time Base Ball, according to 1858 rules, all day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  And who knows?  There may even be some traditional side entertainment, such as poetry, song and a bit of drama provided by the Joliet Drama Guild.

There’s lots of family fun ahead.  These combined culture, history, and sport events deserve your support and promise a good deal of reward.
